When she closed the restaurant in 1998, as tastes in the city shifted and she spoke longingly of spending more time with her grandchildren, she immediately regretted the decision and opened Madame Wu’s Asian Bistro & Sushi in the then newly opened Grove. Though the new restaurant vanished quickly, affection for Madame Wu did not. When she turned 100 in 2014, her old customers filled up a hotel ballroom for her birthday party.

The dark leather booths and sleek walnut ceilings inside this Manhattan Beach spot give off the kind of laidback luxury you'd usually find in a members-only supper club. Your steak will be smoky from the time it spends cooking on a wood-fired grill. Once you've decided which cut you want, choose a couple of sauces, butters, toppings, and sides to round out your red meat dream. We usually go with the filet mignon cooked medium rare and a side of chimichurri.

Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: April 26

But if you write off this iconic steakhouse as a Hollywood Blvd. tourist trap, you'll be missing out on a classic LA dining experience. The waiters wear red jackets and bow-ties, crab louie is still on the menu, and there's a vintage phone booth in a corner. For steak, we like the ribeye, but make sure you order it slightly rarer than usual—meats tend to be slightly overcooked here.

Bespoke cocktails are dramatically presented in a haze of dry-ice, the list of world-class wine is extensive, and of course, Mastro’s has a premium selection of beer available. Cut is a Wolfgang Puck-owned steakhouse in Beverly Hills that is predictably expensive and surprisingly excellent. Before you can even order a $20 glass of wine, a suited server shows up with a platter of steaks from all over the world, each more marbled than a countertop in Architectural Digest. The move here is to get one of the shareable cuts, like the 24-ounce New York strip that arrives expertly charred, sliced, and served with various mustards.

Locations:

The flavorful culotte bistecca and thin bone-in tagliatan are beautifully served on a cutting board. Or opt for the 45-day dry-aged wagyu tomahawk that should feel the entire table. Steak dinners are typically synonymous with special occasions, and for good reason, but sometimes a Thursday night calls for a textbook-sized slab of meat, too. From French bistros to upscale KBBQ spots and old-school chophouse institutions, go to these restaurants when you're in the mood for a hunk of steak and nothing else will suffice. The restaurant, like the food truck, will serve a classic menu including pulled pork and chicken, ribs, barbecue chicken, brisket, wings, macaroni and cheese, potato and macaroni salads, and barbecue beans. Ruth’s Chris delivers the ultimate, most hospitable steak house experiences in Woodland Hills.

Private events, a cut above the rest.

That should change—Gwen on Sunset Blvd. is a fantastic option for an upscale, meat-centric meal. In addition to serving great charcuterie, they make an evenly charred, 36-ounce ribeye that can easily feed two grown adults. If you're in need of an understated, fancy dinner in Hollywood with great steaks—and available reservations—head to Gwen. On the second floor of the towering Intercontinental Hotel in Downtown LA is chef Shin Thompson’s meat emporium serving high-end yakiniku and omakase for Japanese beef aficionados. Head to the top floor of Eataly in Century City Terra and take a moment to observe the sprawling views with a whiff of smoky flavors emanating from the grill. Always take recommendations from Terra’s seasoned staff, but it’s best to start with burrata, grilled bread, and salads before moving on to grilled fish and meat skewers.

Combine that with the most mouthwatering steaks, a phenomenal wine selection, and 58 years of cherished tradition, and you’re in for one of the most special meals of your life. First opened in 1953, Taylor’s Steakhouse moved to their current location on 8th Street in 1970, then watched as the the neighborhood completely shifted through the decades. This longtime Koreatown staple still serves their ten-ounce sirloin culotte steaks, and sitting in the red naugahyde booths is as fun as ever.

They’re trained to deliver steaks exactly the way Ruth wanted. Tiki has been alive and well in Glendale since the 1930’s, at Damon’s Steak House. The prime rib is still the draw here, though the outrageously neon interior is its own reason to go. Or, rather, reverts back to the 1950’s, when Baked Alaska, pepper steaks and hand-spun salads hit each table, and the room looks like a plastic jungle of fake foliage. "We don’t advertise catering much 'cause we don’t have the room to do it," he said. "When we get a lot of catering orders, we have to close just so we can get them done, and it’s not fair for our regulars and those who want to come by and eat."

Self-parking is available at the large parking lot in front of the restaurant.

From the seductively stylish interior to the dry-aged prime steaks, BOA’s vibrant ambiance is as alluring as the cuisine itself. Located one crosswalk away from Warner Brothers Studios, Smoke House has been a Valley icon since 1942. On any given night, you'll find celebrities, set designers, and security guards swigging martinis and toasting to another day on the lot. As for food, don't get too cute with your order—this is the kind of place to fill your table with caesar salads and several orders of their famous garlic bread. And considering the name of the place, it's best to stay in the red meat category for entrees. Cuts range from porterhouse to chopped sirloin, but we love the house prime rib—a slow-roasted slab they've been cooking the exact same way since the Truman administration.

Picture an old-school dining space with white tablecloths, portraits of tango legends, and waiters floating between tables pouring glasses of Argentinian reds. All the cuts on the menu, from the juicy ojo de bife to the charred slabs of entraña, come with a side of garlicky chimichurri that you should generously drizzle on everything. There's also a full parrillada for two if you want to try a bunch of different meats, and several incredible dulce de leche desserts. Our menu features 28 days of wet-aged USDA Prime steaks cooked in a 1,500-degree broiler served sizzling hot with clarified butter on plates heated to 450 degrees. At Mastro's we have an array of the freshest seafood selections, like our 2-foot-tall seafood tower of chilled crab legs, shrimp and oysters served over a cloud of dry-ice.

Everything about this Koreatown spot is luxe, from the quality of the meats to the bar that pours a solid Old Fashioned. This glamorous historic steakhouse sits just below The Georgian Hotel, a place where Old Hollywood-era celebrities regularly laid their heads. But even if you don’t care about which starlet sat in which leather booth, you'll be excited about the dry-aged New York strip with salsa verde and roasted garlic at the center of your table. It’s tender enough to cut with a fork and tastes like it was broiled by a dragon that went to culinary school. Beverly Grove’s Carlitos Gardel features Argentinian-grilled USDA prime steaks at exceptionally reasonable prices. Opt for the parrillada plate, as it comes with skirt steak, short ribs, sausages, and sweetbreads for a sampling of everything grilled and glorious.

It's an easy place to sit around for hours with wine and really good steak frites. Their New York Prime comes topped with a dollop of herb butter that melts over the steak's crust and a pile of warm, thin-cut fries that soak up all the drippings. This 12-ounce steak works just fine as a meal for one, and it's best eaten on Marvin's bistro-style front patio with a glass of cabernet sauvignon. Backed by heavy hitters like Dr. Dre and NBA legend Jerry West, this Sherman Oaks steakhouse opened in November 2023. Try the petit filets, dry-aged 42-ounce tomahawk steak, or choose from three different types of wagyu.

Vegetarians can get excited about Collins’s new mushroom Wellington with spinach and beurre rouge; and fresh-cut mafaldine pasta with wild mushrooms and arugula pesto. Boa Steakhouse has a new location slated to open in Austin, Texas, this spring. Bojangles sells bone-in fried chicken, scratch-made savory and sweet biscuits, fried chicken sandwiches, and fried chicken tenders. “Fixins,” or sides, include mac and cheese, Cajun pinto beans, french fries, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, cole slaw, and even a tub of pimento cheese. Originally co-founded by Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas in Charlotte, North Carolina, the chain currently has over 800 restaurants.

Adjacent to the Warner Brothers lot, the place is still an occasional stop for hungry execs looking to fill up on tableside-carved chateaubriand.

West 8th St.,

A busy option in Venice Beach for steak lovers, American Beauty excels because of its menu, ample outdoor seating, casual manner, and striking midcentury space on Rose Avenue. Stop in for cocktails, dry-aged porterhouses, thick grilled bacon, and stuffed hash browns with melted onions and sour cream. "We want to make it a place where people can come, sit inside and enjoy a delicious meal," said Clayton, who decided to open a brick and mortar because business at the trailer is growing every year. Also, the food truck business is weather dependent, and he wants to expand the catering side of Harry's Smokin' BBQ. Boa, with outlets in West Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Manhattan Beach, has hired veteran chef Brendan Collins to lead the kitchen at all of its steakhouses.

Steaks here come out exactly how you ask for them to be cooked, with plenty of the housemade chimichurri and barbecue sauces on the side. Take your pick between prime skirt steak, ribeye, and sirloin, but if you're ordering for a group, just get the ribeye. Whenever we need a break from the chaos and congestion of this century, we take a drive up to this 19th-century general-store-turned-saloon in the Santa Monica Mountains. The Old Place has a Wild West aesthetic that's not unlike what you'll find in Pioneertown. Except here you'll eat American comfort staples like chicken pot pie, fruit cobblers in cast-iron pans, and something called a "noodle bake" comprised of thick egg noodles smothered in three kinds of cheese. But if you don't get the oak-grilled bone-in ribeye, you've made a mistake.

A little over 10 years ago, Chi Spacca became LA’s first meat-curing facility to be certified by the Department of Public Health. This Italian restaurant specializes in bistecca Fiorentina, a 50-ounce dry-aged prime porterhouse. For those intimidated by that massive size, there’s the crostata alla Fiorentina, a prime dry-aged, bone-in New York steak that registers only 36 ounces. Spacca is an intimate space for those going all-out on the meats.

The steaks are all prime cuts that have been wet-aged for 28 days—our favorite is the bone-in ribeye with its even sear and spot-on temperature. It doesn't come with sides, so we suggest adding on the creamed spinach and sweet corn creme brulee for a well-rounded meal. The Arthur J is the Jeff Goldblum of steakhouses—we haven't met anyone yet who is immune to its charm.

From date nights to large celebrations, we have you covered. Stop by our Church Square location for an unforgettable meal. We’ve combined the finest spirits, service, and steaks with a relaxed, friendly environment to create the best bar experience.

Our menu features an array of inventive techniques and premium ingredients. We offer a wide selection of prime steaks, including our signature 40-day dry-aged New York strip and A5 Japanese Wagyu. The seafood menu is equally diverse with entrees like live Maine lobster and our Cedarplank Salmon. This clubby spot in Beverly Hills specializes in multi-course, prix-fixe menus consisting of various wagyu dishes.

In Redondo Beach, this elegant steakhouse does beef exceedingly well with a wood-fried sear on the outside while maintaining a juicy, tender core. Chef Walter Nunez assembles a crowd-pleasing menu of clams casino, gnocchi with lobster, and lamb shank doused in rosemary. The main draw is an eight-ounce filet, bone-in tomahawk, but the wagyu flight showcasing two-ounce portions from the US, Australia, and Japan is equally great. Everyone asks the same question upon entering this Santa Monica establishment, “How long has this place been here? ” Since 1949, the Golden Bull has served stellar chops in an old-school dining room with serious Mad Men vibes, stiff drinks, and friendly service.

Don’t forget to share the famous focaccia di recco to start, a cheesy flatbread perfected by chef Nancy Silverton. Starting in 1933, the Georgian Room served stars over decades including Judy Garland and Dick Van Dyke. Always leave room for All Day Baby veteran pastry chef Thessa Diadem’s incredible-looking desserts.

House of Yes was created in 2007 by Kae Burke and Anya Sapozhnikova, two best friends who just wanted to make art and have a good time. With lots of help and lots of love, the original idea of House of Yes have transformed into a reality beyond what anyone ever imagined.

House of Yes is a world renowned nightclub and creative collective based in Brooklyn, NYC. The performance fueled venue has become a destination for creative culture and outrageous dance parties since opening their Bushwick location in 2015. The new House of Yes was double the size, which meant double the potential for creativity. It was a project built on passion with the intention of creating a more professional version of the first House of Yes. The newest incarnation would be home to Make Fun costume studio, a music studio an event space and an aerial circus school known as Sky Box with classes 6 days a week. Once again, people from far and wide would come to House of Yes to support by taking classes, seeing performances, coming to events or volunteering their time to be with like minded creatives.

We love the planet and continually look for ways to reduce plastic waste in our club. Your entry into our home is a promise to respect and protect it. Honor the humans who work to make this all possible. Show kindness, love and composure to your fellow guests, staff and the creators and they will do so in return. In addition, Rachael Leigh Cook and David Love have cameos as young Jackie-O and the voice of young Marty, respectively.

One of the wildest clubs on the planet

Every week, the House of Yes collective invited the extended community over for Make Fun Sewing Nights (Tuesdays) and Circus Skill Share nights (Wednesdays). Anya’s Best Friend from High School Kae Burke had moved in,  and everyone lived happily forever and ever… until April 22nd, 2008 when a kitchen fire turned the candy-colored bohemian paradise into a blazing inferno. Eames House is another home you might not have heard of if you’re not into architecture, but if you are, it is a home you must check out. It is all about modern design, and with large open spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and unique themes throughout, it’s really a masterpiece. In the morning, Mrs. Pascal talks with the twins about times when Jackie-O shot people, and demands that Anthony hide the gun. Marty breaks down and begs Lesly to return to New York with him.

We are a collective of creatives, performers and innovators who live to support artistic expression, performance, nightlife and community. Our home is the House of Yes in Bushwick Brooklyn – our venue and incubation space fueled by passion and designed to inspire. Together we build intimate experiences, spectacular entertainment, killer parties and outrageous events anywhere and everywhere. This was a project driven by passion, not dollars. The goal was to build a true creative live-work space that could host an occasional dance party or circus class. Walls were torn down, kitchens were installed, studios were created, stages were built.

The House of Yes received a divided critical reaction, with Posey winning a Sundance Award and Spelling receiving a Razzie Award nomination. The House of Yes venue is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn at 2 Wyckoff Ave (Entrance at 408 Jefferson Street). We are a 1 min walk from the Jefferson stop on the L train and a 5 minute cab ride from the Flushing stop on the J/M/Z train. We believe in the creative energy of every person who enters this space. Or, use our Community Guide to help you in your search for Los Angeles real estate listings. After deliberating names such as “Crystal Palace” and “Troutwick Bushman” the House of Yes was eventually dubbed “House of Yes”. Cassina’s astounding three-level space —  designed by its art director Patricia Urquiola, the renowned Spanish architect and industrial designer — is the Italian furniture manufacturer’s largest store to date. At House of Yes, there are no boundaries or limits.

Today, nobody lives in this home, which belongs to the MAK Center for Art and Architecture. They offer tours of the home if you’d like to visit, however. The Schindler House is one of the more unique homes on our list. It doesn’t feature a formal living room, any bedrooms, or any common living areas.

We only serve straws upon request, and all our straws are biodegradable. Open Water aluminum canned water is available for purchase at the club, instead of plastic bottles, or you can feel free to use our water refill station in the front room. We have recycling bins located throughout the venue, including recycling containers for cigarettes in the courtyard. On other days of the week, wear whatever makes you feel fun, fresh, funky and fabulous. We put a lot of love into our parties, and the energy of the night is incredible when everyone is committed to participating and getting creative with us.

It’s still cool to check out, but currently, there are no available public tours inside the house. All entrances and spaces within the venue are single-level and accessible to folks in wheelchairs. There are stairs leading to the upper portions of the stage, for those who wish to dance in the spotlight. Reserved seating can be arranged for those with physical disabilities.

Los Angeles is a vibrant and active city, and one area it thrives is its architecture. Whether you’re looking for architectural masterpieces, iconic landmarks, or homes from movies and TV shows, Los Angeles has it all. We also encourage you to visit your local dollar store and get creative! Anything can be a costume if you have the right attitude and outlook.

Schedule a tour, drive by, or head out on a walk to check out these homes. Whether you’re interested in architecture, history, or pop culture, there’s sure to be a home in Los Angeles that holds your interest. The Avila Adobe gets its notoriety from the fact that it’s the longest-standing home in Los Angeles. It’s one of the smaller homes though, so you don’t need to carve too much time out of your schedule for the tour. But because of its historical significance and because it provides a look back at the architectural style from 1818, we think it’s well worth the visit. If you’re a horror movie fan, you must drive by the Nightmare on Elm Street house.

The film studio is home to over 30 sound stages spread across over 400 acres, production offices, dressing rooms, rehearsal halls, and a massive backlot area. The script, by Douglas Kenney, Chris Miller and Harold Ramis, aimed to capture the rude, subversive humor of the magazine, but the story — about the unruly fraternity Delta House at fictional Faber College — left Hollywood’s establishment cold. They recalled the film’s breakout star, John Belushi, who died of a drug overdose in 1982 at 33, as well as a real food fight and an on-campus melee. Many Deltas achieve unexpected success, with Bluto becoming a United States senator and marrying Mandy, while most of the Omegas have less fortunate outcomes. Wormer organizes a kangaroo court led by the Omegas, which revokes the Deltas' charter and confiscates the contents of their house.

Animal House was the first film produced by National Lampoon, the most popular humor magazine on college campuses in the mid-1970s.[12] The periodical specialized in satirizing politics and popular culture. Many of the magazine's writers were recent college graduates, hence its appeal to students all over the country. They made their debut in 1973's National Lampoon's High School Yearbook, a satire of a Middle America 1964 high school yearbook. Kroger's and Pepperidge's characters in the yearbook were effectively the same as their characters in the movie, whereas Vernon Wormer was a P.E. Of the younger lead actors, only the 28-year-old Belushi was an established star, but even he had not yet appeared in a film, having gained fame as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, which was in its third season in the autumn of 1977.

Otter, Boon, Pinto, and Flounder take a road trip in Flounder's brother Fred's borrowed Lincoln Continental. They arrive at Emily Dickinson College, an all-girls institution, where Otter poses as Frank, the fiancé of a recently deceased student named Fawn Liebowitz to find dates for himself and the others. They stop at a roadhouse bar where Otis Day and the Knights are performing, unaware that the clientele is exclusively Black.

Unable to gain acceptance at the snootier fraternities they pledge, the Deltas, a a motley crew of misfits and sociopaths bent on disrupting the well-starched status quo, engage in various illegalities that land them in hot water with both the stern college dean and the neighboring jock fraternity. Their exploits eventually cause them to be placed on "double-secret probation," until finally, they are kicked out of school and, as the dean reminds them, newly eligible for the Vietnam draft. Nearly 40 years later, we caught up with many of the cast members including Kevin Bacon (who made his film debut in the comedy) and Donald Sutherland, along with Mr. Landis and the producer Ivan Reitman to tell the back story of the quintessential summer comedy.

A party-centric fraternity causes all sorts of havoc and hijinks on a college campus in the early 1960s, leading to their expulsion and a grand act of revenge. Now that the movie has reached its 40th birthday — it first hit theaters July 28, 1978 — The Hollywood Reporter breaks down what the principal actors have been doing since the fraternity members' expulsion from Faber College. In the fall of 1962, Faber College freshmen Larry Kroger and Kent Dorfman seek to pledge a fraternity.

The movie was set to be filmed at the University of Missouri until the president of the school read the script and refused permission. Filming began on October 24, 1977, and concluded in the middle of December 1977.[1] and Landis brought the actors who played the Deltas up five days early to bond. Belushi and his wife Judy rented a house in south Eugene to keep him away from alcohol and drugs;[13][24] she remained in Oregon while he commuted to New York City for Saturday Night Live. Furthermore, the Relax Inn at 1030 North Pacific Highway in Cottage Grove doubled for the Rainbow Motel in the John Landis directorial. Besides, some key scenes were recorded in Dexter, an unincorporated community in the county. For instance, the filming unit was spotted taping several scenes in and around the Dexter Lake Club at Dexter Road.

In a stroke of genius, the Titans administration decided to celebrate Groundhog Day rather than Valentine's Day. Over time, the Groundhog Day party evolved into the famous TOGA banquet and concert it is today. The members and their dates dress up in their togas and attend a dinner where superlatives are distributed and other activities occur. Out of every club on campus, TOGA sells more tickets and draws more of a crowd than any other club-organized event. In 1978, Universal’s film division president, Ned Tanen, was in a rage about the not-yet-released Kennedy-era comedy.

Several of the actors who were cast as college students, including Thomas Hulce, Karen Allen, and Kevin Bacon, were just beginning their film careers. Matheson, also cast as a student, was already a seasoned actor, having appeared in movies and television since the age of 13. The film's significant cultural impact can be seen across many college campuses in the United States. At Harding University, a private Christian university affiliated with the Churches of Christ, Titans Men's Social Club refuses to put on a spring formal for its members. Instead, the men of Titans choose to celebrate an event called "TOGA" which is heavily inspired by the iconic toga concert from the movie. In the 1980s, it was difficult for Titans to throw a Valentine's Day function because the vast majority of members were busy attending Valentine's Day functions put on by the Women's Social Clubs on campus.

National Lampoon's Animal House - Full Cast & Crew

Animal House tells the wonderfully chaotic story of college fraternity misfits who battle with their dean and the rival fraternity’s president to keep their spot on campus. One death of a horse, "double-secret probation," multiple failed exams and a one-night stand with the dean’s wife later, the members of Delta Tau Chi get (spoiler alert!) expelled — and plot out an elaborate revenge. National Lampoon's Animal House is a 1978 American comedy film directed by John Landis and written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney and Chris Miller. It stars John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Verna Bloom, Thomas Hulce and Donald Sutherland. The film is about a trouble-making fraternity whose members challenge the authority of the dean of the fictional Faber College. The Delta House actors were brought to the set 5 days before the Omega House actors to get into character, in an intentional effort to cause cliques to form.

He was particularly livid over a scene in which white fraternity brothers and their sorority dates feel threatened by a roadhouse full of African-Americans. There will be riots across America,’” the director John Landis recalled in a recent interview. The student cafeteria scenes, including Bluto impersonating a zit bursting, were shot in the Fishbowl Café of the Erb Memorial Union at 1222 East 13th Avenue at the University of Oregon. Additional portions of ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’ were taped in Lane County, Oregon’s fourth most populous county. For instance, Cottage Grove, the third largest city in Oregon’s Lane County, served as another important production location for the movie. Specifically, the concluding parade scene in the movie was shot on Main Street, while the scene where the marching band is misdirected off the street was filmed at 733 East Main Street, both in Cottage Grove.

The maneuver effectively decoupled aid for Israel and Ukraine on the House floor without actually breaking the two apart. It allows lawmakers who strongly back aid to Israel — most Republicans and Democrats — to vote in favor of that piece of the package. At the same time, those who oppose aid to Ukraine — as many right-wing Republicans do — would be able to do so.

Most of our designs started out as custom home plans for private clients, and now we can offer them online as "stock" house plans at an affordable price. Our commitment to code compliancy and structural detail and our hundreds of customer reviews can assure that you’re buying your house plans from a trusted source. Floor plans and blueprints are sometimes used interchangeably, but they are, in fact, two different types of drawings that serve distinct purposes in the design and construction process.

Room Features

RoomSketcher has collected a large selection of home design plan examples, all of which are drawn up using our app. Designers Frank Slesinski and Serena Brosio collaborated on the charming living room in the Gatehouse. “One of the main things we did was add a window seat, which looks like it should always have been here,” Slesinski says. “Our whole goal with this space was basically to turn the lights on in the room, bring in the garden that’s outside, and kind of have an experience of a breath of fresh air,” Brosio says. Blueprints are used in various fields, such as architecture, engineering, and construction. It typically includes precise measurements, specifications, and details for the structure or product being built.

These homes are smaller in size and carry over many of the aesthetics of Craftsman homes, only on a more stripped-down scale. These houses often feature offset porches, simple front lawns, and a single story that spreads out the rooms to maximize space. However, with the right set of tools, the designing process is a lot easier than you might expect.

“I’m all about gardens connecting the architecture into the landscape,” landscape architect Timothy John Palcic tells AD PRO. He used a limited palette of chartreuse and dark hues that nod to the brick exterior and arranged benches to create intimate seating areas within the larger English-garden-inspired space. Designer Mark Hermogeno paid tribute to Silver Queen Susanna Bransford Emery-Holmes in the kitchen, butler’s pantry, family room, powder room, and mudroom. “We had thought, What if she actually came back to life and asked us to remodel the space? “We wanted to concentrate on polished nickels and polished chromes to get that silver feel back in,” he says of the fixtures, hardware, and lighting by Kohler and Kallista.
